Mr.Tac <\/strong>a.k.a. \u2018Chocolate\u2019<\/strong> is an independent underground rapper from The Bronx, N.Y.C. who found worldwide indie success in 1999 with his summertime single \u2018Up Next\u2019. Born on June 4, 1979, in The Bronx, New York, he made his full-length album debut with the independent release \u2018A Day In Da Life Ex-Perience\u2019 (2007). He subsequently established his own label Zone Platinum Entertainment<\/em> to release his music and also created a platform for artists like his-self to established their own sound. He has worked hard to build a strong audience and following for himself via MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc. In 2006, an appearance on \u2018Drop-Zone\u2019 The Purple Album MixTape Chapter A Volume 2<\/em> became an early sign that the rapper was aligning himself to be recognized and heard. We caught up with him to talk about his music.<\/p>\n

01 How did you get started in music?<\/h3>\n

I started to really do music in about 1993, when hip-hop was \u2018Real\u2019 and exciting, but I was also influenced by old school artists like Prince, Michael Jackson and Earth, Wind & Fire.<\/p>\n

02 Where did your direction come from?<\/h3>\n

From listening to underground hip-hop artists like Wu Tang Clan, KRS One, Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq, Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Nas and Big Pun.<\/p>\n

03 Who were your major influences and inspirations and who do you despise?<\/h3>\n

My major influences are Heavy D, Jodeci, L.L. Cool J, Afrika Bambaataa, Luther Vandross & The Jackson 5 and truthfully I despise artists such as Lil Wayne, Drake & Nikki Minaj.<\/p>\n

04 What inspires you to make your current type of songs and sound?<\/h3>\n

I have also been ahead of the competition which made and still make\u2019s creative music with its own lane – sorta something different but still familiar.<\/p>\n

05 What can someone who has never seen you live before expect from your live shows then & possibly even now?<\/h3>\n

I really give an energetic show, so if someone has never been to one, when they do they will expect a full cast show with dancer\u2019s, live band and DJ!<\/p>\n

06 How do you begin your songs? What types of themes and subjects do you deal with?<\/h3>\n

I mostly deal with any topic I feel need\u2019s to be talk\u2019d about, no matter if its partying, struggling, politics, love & street knowledge.<\/p>\n

07 How did your music evolved since you first began playing?<\/h3>\n

My music has came a long way from when I first got started! Right now my current level of experience is at it\u2019s highest level, which I guess make\u2019s my sound today, even more powerful.<\/p>\n

08 What has been your biggest challenge? Were you been able to overcome this? If so, how?<\/h3>\n

My biggest challenge was trying to create music and make a living at the same time. Music is my heart, but I do have a family to take care of, so I have learned how to level both things, so my time is giving to make good music and profit from it and enjoy spending time with my family.<\/p>\n

09 Do you play covers? If you could pick any song, which would you like to cover most and why?<\/h3>\n

I don’t really do cover’s, but if I was to I would cover anything it would be the entire Jay-Z\u2019s \u2018Blue Print\u2019 Album.<\/p>\n

10 Where did you envisage being in five years time?<\/h3>\n

On Tour over sea\u2019s, selling out arenas and performing at the Grammy\u2019s!<\/p>\n

11 Who would you most like to record with?<\/h3>\n

Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Timbaland and Pharrell Williams.<\/p>\n

12 What should we be expecting from you in the near future?<\/h3>\n

My 12th solo studio album, \u2018The Last Hip-Hop Avenger\u2019 CD\/DVD combo and the short film of the same name.<\/p>\n
